  •  Oh well (9+ / 0-)

Madonna did the same thing - remember her book "Sex", which followed various similar performances? Even Elvis shocked people by shaking his pelvic region, and there have been a lot of others. I don't know that Miley needs our help, she's just shaking her money maker just like a long parade of celebrities before her.

Is that Madonna was an adult woman in her 20s when she did "Sex."  Elvis was an adult.  Miley Cyrus is all of 20, which makes her barely out of adolescence.

She's no child, but she's nowhere NEAR as savvy as either Madonna or Elvis were at the stage of their careers when they made social controversy.

Reminds me of when Geena Davis wrote to L.A. Magazine in the '90s to protest a shot of little Christina Ricci, who was being acclaimed for her role as Wednesday Addams, in a bikini.  She argued that Ricci was being sexualized.  Another reader wrote in the next issue that Geena Davis was a hypocrite because she'd allowed herself to be filmed in her underwear in Tootsie.  Davis got the last word when she stated that, yes, she'd been shot in her underwear in Tootsie - "but I WAS NOT TEN YEARS OLD."  (She was 26.)

Hope is a good thing--maybe the best of things--and no good thing ever dies.

Madonna was genuinely talented, very smart, and exhibited extraordinary control over her public image. Ditto for Lady Gaga today. Miley, by comparison, is a better singer than dancer, and a better actor than singer, and that's not saying a lot all the way around. She's also better known, more and more, for her off-stage antics than anything else.
