  •  why not the white house directly? (0+ / 0-)

i don't understand why those petitions are not delivered to the white house, Obama and his team have to feel the heat on this one and the nomination of Kelly aka Stop-and-Frisk. I don't understand why those visits to people who already oppose that nomination is effective? the one who need to change his mind is Obama

the logic behind this tactic is that POTUS appointments require support of key Senators in POTUS's party and the best way to achieve getting message across is through those Senators that POTUS and his people need.

But then, I'm not in charge and I'm not savvy, so others who are can probably explain it better.  Going straight to the WH doesn't do much in terms of making the WH's path toward what they want more difficult.  It's just a PR move.  This could be calculated to have more "bang for the buck" in terms of using the system.

and will continue to do so. We have an action that is sending emails directly to the White House, you can take action here. We continue delivering all of the petitions and updates over the next few weeks. We thought it important to deliver petitions to Sen. Brown because he is integral in organizing the support for Janet Yellen as chair in place of Summers. By providing him with this constituent support we hope he can convince other Democratic Senators to hold the line. If Summers can't make it through confirmation, we win. If enough Democratic Senators hold their opposition to Summers or their support for Yellen, we win. We're using multiple tactics and strategies to keep up the pressure until the White House has no choice but to drop Summers from the candidate list.

      •  my only concern ? (0+ / 0-)

is that some of these petition signatures are repetitive - so a "mere" 30+K signatures" will be what is picked up by MSM.
