the US agreeing, Russia and China will veto any resolution

Russian foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich has called on the international community to show "prudence" over the crisis and observe international law.

"Attempts to bypass the Security Council, once again to create artificial groundless excuses for a military intervention in the region are fraught with new suffering in Syria and catastrophic consequences for other countries of the Middle East and North Africa," he said in a statement.

    •  the Arab League has just condemned the Syrian (6+ / 0-)

      regime for a chemical attack.

obviously Russia and China will veto it.  That's one reason the UN can't ever do anything.  Russia and China vetoed absolutely everything from the beginning--back when the protestors were, in fact, peaceful, generally m iddle class Syrians.

why wouldn't China and Russia just say, "please proceed, Barack?"  It's why Russia let the Korean War go forward, so there's history.

      Difficult, difficult, lemon difficult.

world in general. Because the US is global in scope, it tends to drag other countries into it's quagmires.

why wouldn't China and Russia just say, "please proceed, Barack?"
China doesn't want a middle east on fire. It just wants to do business and buy some oil. Russia also does better there with peace.

The Cold War is over. Most nations scaled back defense spending. Not the US. It kept increasing at an even greater rate forcing other countries to try and keep up.

The US is now the single superpower in the world. But it is muscle bound when it comes to today's asymmetrical warfare. Just look at how fucked over they got in Iraq and Afghanistan by a ragtag bunch of 19th. century fighters.

Continuing like a weight lifter hooked on steroids will be it's eventual downfall.
