that made self-defense iffy in this case. Not to me (who watched much of the trial). To me, he started harrassing somebody, and ended the encounter (who escalated the encounter, and how, we will never really know) by shooting.

I wouldn't use the word "clear" to describe the case, either. The verdict, remember, was "not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt," not "a case of self defense."   Several of the jurors took a long time to reach their verdict--and if I understand their remarks after the trial, at least one of them believed it more likely than not that he was guilty of some degree of murder.

However, those jurors found that the high bar of a criminal trial got him an "not guilty" (not "innocent") verdict. A civil trial, with a "more likely than not" criterion, might well come out the other way.

He should've been charged with involuntary manslaughter. I suspect the evidence was there to convict him of that. But again, politics reached into the judiciary, and the mob wanted blood.

Everyone thinks this is a clear-cut case of racism and racial profiling, but it's not. The narrative was created by the media, which sunk so low as to edit the dispatcher recording to show racism when in fact none could be shown to exist.

And everyone seems to think it was Zimmerman who started the fight. We'll never know. There are no witnesses to that effect.
