  •  Meh, typical blame the victim stuff (6+ / 0-)

What, did you think that there would be justice in this case?

That Judge "Rape Enabler" Baugh would actually follow the law and protect women?

LOL, just remember this the next time you read about a rape in India and think "oh, what a backward misogynist country".

You can compare this to the gang rapes in India where the victims were beaten and raped within an inch of their life?

The guy should do time, but let's keep this in perspective.  From what I have seen of similar crimes here in Colorado (teacher in a sexual relationship with an underage student) almost all have not gotten any time at all.

      •  then that's on the Colorado bench (3+ / 0-)

and moves to impeach them -- or the lack of such moves -- are on the community.

Here is a link to a study by Brown University on Statutory rape.

          Statutory Rape

Less than 20% of those found guilty do any time at all.

And this is a national study.

          •  Then we as a nation need to rise up and stop it (3+ / 0-)

because clearly it's not all consensual activity between near-age peers.

I would agree.  I would also agree that there is no equivalence to the rape in Montana and the rapes that have been causing international scorn in India.

              •  I disagree (0+ / 0-)

Rape is rape.  I understood absdogs comment to mean that we ignore, support, cultivate rape culture just as much as India, and that comment is accurate.

Remember that in India the sentence for rape is death.  Just try getting that one enforced, though.  If India is a rape culture, so are we.  In the military, in the Catholic Church, amongst babies, old women, school kids, doesn't seem to matter.  We condone it all, and these judges prove it.

And if this rape stuff sounds sick to you, just delve into family courts and DCF/CPS to see what those clowns put our innocent children through.  Most of the judges are pedophiles themselves.

I feel for those who are truly young lovers and get caught up in this kind of law. I was 15 and involved with an 18 year old, and was not raped in any sense of the word. These kind of situations need to be looked at individually IMO, a black or white law is not going to bring true justice.

But a 49 yr old man and a 14 yr old girl is another story. And the fact he AGREED to the deal and now is off scott free despite not following his part of the deal is not justice.
