So, raping a 14 yr-old is better than, say, raping  an 8 yr-old?  There is no statistical evidence that child rapists differentiate their prey that way.  They may prefer a particular stage of development, but they act on availability.

So you would rather live next door to an "ephebophile" than "pedophile?" (Do you have kids. . . ?)  The   "epheb-" vs "pedo-" is the self-serving argument made by RCC apologists for the 100,000+ victims (their numbers) of predatory clergy in their employ during the last century.

Why is the suicide--the consequence--of Rambold's deliberate, selfish, predatory rape of Cherice  not relevant?  30 days for indifferently causing the death of a minor under his care & supervision?

But, I digress, for the real problem is that our "culture" prefers to spend far more per perpetrator on "rehabilitation" than on their victim's recovery.  The last lit review that I saw did not show any effective treatment for CSA predators.   Incapacitation, at least, prevents further rapes of minors.  After recovery support is available for their victims we can maybe provide help to their predators.

First, the use of the word "rape" for sex with a teen blurs all distinctions.  There is a difference between a)forcing an eight year old into sex and telling him/her that their parents will be killed if they tell anyone and b) seducing someone who a week later will be able to have sex without any legal consequences.  Yet, they are both called rape.  We have to make distinctions, just as the law in most states distinguishes sexual offenses based on the age of the victim.

      2. I do have kids.  I was very protective of them.

      3. Yes, I would MUCH rather live next door to an ephebophile than a pedophile.  By the time they were 13 my three children could not have been manipulated by an adult.  At 4-7, for example, I'm not so sure.

      4. If you want to sentence the defendant in this case to ten years, then yes, we will spend a lot more on his "rehabilitation" in prison (40-50K) than on the victim's recovery.  But that's your choice.

      5. There is effective treatment for CSA, but it's a lot easier to do so with ephebophiles than pedophiles, and I've worked with both.
