    students got into quite a bit of trouble for hacking (if he'd been in the u.s. instead of the u.k. he'd probably be doing time now). She said in talking to him that the whole point of stealing anything was just to prove to fellow hackers they'd gotten into a system, essentially a trophy. Sounds like a truly weird subculture.
