Arab League Rejects Attack Against Syria

CAIRO — The leaders of the Arab world on Tuesday blamed the Syrian government for a chemical weapons attack that killed hundreds of people last week, but declined to back a retaliatory military strike, leaving President Obama without the broad regional support he had for his last military intervention in the Middle East, in Libya in 2011.
Attacking Syria is a roll of the dice, nobody has a clue what will happen and everyone; including China and Russia are watching.

The only country that has 75,000 troops that may do the job is Turkey.  Any way into Syria without Turkey full on makes no sense.

    •  the Arab League was reported as being all in favor (8+ / 0-)

of the strike only a few hours ago !

What has happened if it's indeed true that (1) they were for it (2) now they're not - it might just be a media ballsup, wouldn't be the first time..

Of course we on DKos don't know, and never will know, everything about what is really going on.

But I wonder if Assad's supporters (Russia, China, Iran) have started applying pressure of some kind?

We're shocked by a naked nipple, but not by naked aggression.

Won't vote for it in the UN Security Council, won't stand in the way of a decision by the US & NATO to act.  Officially, China fully backed the UN investigation but now that is history I think China will just stand on the sidelines. It is certainly not going to support intervention without the Arab League, refer back to the SC votes on Libya.

Egypt refuses to let US war ships pass through Suez Canal.

The source is in French. A Google translation of the first part is here:

Things get complicated for push-to-crime and going into the war Western and worthy heirs of German small mustache. General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, a new strong man of Egypt, a worthy heir of Nasser and executioner of the brotherhood of nothing, commander in chief of the armed forces, announced the closure of the Suez Canal. This blocks the American destroyers bound for Syria, including their mothership.

The entry of the U.S. military and its minions is now complicated. However, the United States has chartered a tanker refueling to hit Syria with impunity. General al-Sisi stressed the commitment of Egypt, over the joint defense agreement with Syria. The Suez Canal is the prerequisite of the murderers of the Arab people, in collusion with some states including Saudi Arabia. The heirs of Hitler and Goebbels are in big trouble. Sissi shows that it is nationalist and independent. Recently, the JDD headlined: "The Genaral who stands up to Obama" ... Indeed, the Muslim Brotherhood in the White House is naked ...

Al-Sissi stressed that Egypt will not be a way to attack any Arab country, adding, Egypt will not repeat the mistakes of the Iraq war. And knock ...

Have to leave now. Will check in later.
