  •  Hello The Fritz. I usually follow when I'm blown (6+ / 0-)

away by a diary, or consistently enjoy a diarist's work/comments. That said, when catching up on diaries, I don't look for people I follow when scrolling down the list, and try my best not to look at the recommend list, until I pick a few titles that grab me otherwise. The recommended list is lovely - They do miss some jewels at times. I think those I'm following are highlighted in bold on the diary list. Still learning myself.

After 9 months, I finally am recognizing a lot of names/avatars, when strolling down the Dairy Avenue, and enjoy their work, yet forget to follow them. I'm not sure it's really that important in the overall picture. Some of the best writers here, don't have as many followers as you would think.

As for the use of 'diary,' I thought it odd at first as well, until I realized it's really about sharing our thoughts  - only here, not so privately. I look forward to reading your thoughts... you know what I mean. Cheers.

    •  Re "diaries" (2+ / 0-)

I believe the proper nomenclature for an essay that a user posts is "diary entry". Each user is given a "diary" to which s/he can post essays (though many never post one). Somehow, whether due to misunderstanding or laziness to give the full term for a post, individual entries became "diaries".

I just played the video you posted and my daughter's boyfriend came running, believing the movie was on TV.

"Diary entry" is certainly not the preferred nomenclature since no one seems to be using it, but it is probably the proper one.
