there are all kinds of chemicals in soap, shampoo and conditioner. There are some products that don't use the chemicals ... my soap is made locally from goat milk and is very gentle and free of most chemicals.

But now I have a choice ... do I die from a stinky itchy scalp, alone and friendless because I am stinky and irritable ... or accept my fate with a clean scalp?

Seriously, we have to work to make products safer, try environmental working group ... http://www.ewg.org/ ... to see what is in your products.  They do ask you to sign up so I don't know if you want to do that.

Good luck with your special needs for your hair.

    •  I must admit, the one time (4 mo?) I tried the (0+ / 0-)

NO-poo method, I thought I'd go crazy, 8-)  I managed to get through the grungie-itchie phase, took a couple of weeks.

The no-poo stuff came up before the soda/lemon did, so that's what I tried first. I didn't get much out of that, my hair didn't seem much different than usual, certainly not the miracles most of the "super-fine and/or wildly naturally curly" folks were reporting! But those were never my hair issues!

I think I was down to commercial shampoo about every 4 days before I tried ye-complet-colde-turkey... aka no-poo.

At the time (maybe 15 years ago?) a lot of folks in my hobby group, the SCA,  were talking about how did Middle Ages folks deal with hair care in the medieval period. (Answer: Mostly they used combs, with or without assistance. There are lots of combs in the archaeological record, from Vikings to earlyMiddle Ages to the Renaissance.)

There were rinses for making your hair blonde/blonder and herbals, but nothing like modern sudsy shampoos!

"real" work : a job where you wash your hands BEFORE you use the bathroom...
