  •  On the contrary, a "battle-hardened" military (0+ / 0-)

is generally more effective than sending in commanders and troops who have never been in war.

Using the military for never ending pissant police operations erodes the capability to prosecute major combat operations.

      •  Military "Police operations" ARE combat (0+ / 0-)

operations. The police modifier refers to the status with regard to international law or policy and not to military activity. If it did, then we would be sending MPs instead of bombers.

We can debate whether or not the military, men and materiel, are being maintained appropriately for this style of perpetual conflict, but the concept itself doesn't necessarily lead to that result.

military, a peace based industrial production infrastructure, and an isolationist cast to the populist and while in a depression.  The professional staff and armies of France, Germany, and late Rome all lost, and at great cost in lives and chaos.

      •  Have you ever read about WWII? (0+ / 0-)

Sure, we won it, after losing several battles until the military could learn from its mistakes and after the economy had geared up for war production. The reason the US didn't get invaded and lose is that there are oceans in the way.

If WWII happened with the US at the same state of readiness that we're at right now, the German advance probably would have stopped at the Sitzkrieg, a few weeks after it began.

        •  We didn't even get into the war until after Pearl (0+ / 0-)

Harbor.  France had fallen, North Africa was in German control, so two weeks isn't very realistic.
