  •  Depends on how you define "crackdown" (5+ / 0-)

Air traffic controllers that went on strike were replaced fairly quickly.

If by "crackdown", you mean Matewan-style Pinkerton homicide; that sounds expensive and this is the day and age of the cell phone camera.

Why pay a bunch of Pinkertons when there are lots of people willing to take the same job for even less pay?

    •  I think they're counting on that. (6+ / 0-)

Their first impulse will be to "teach these people a lesson."  I'd be very surprised if they gave serious consideration to raising wages, at least not at this stage. The only way that happens is if they're forced to, and it's too early to predict what type of outcome or measures we'll see here. The wheel's still spinning.

But whatever they do, they can't allow it the workers to be perceived publically as having won a victory. Because that spells real trouble for the future.

Assuming this takes hold beyond a day or so, I think you'll see people fired, coupled with an aggressive PR campaign demonizing the workers as lazy, greedy, name it. It'll be coordinated by FOX news and other right wing media, with an object to turn public opinion against the workers. In fact I suspect they're already working on that tactic right now.
