has a solid reputation as a civil libertarian.

He is on the advisory board of the ACLU.
He is on the board of directors of the Constitution Society.

He has written several books on freedom of speech in war time, and other relevant topics.

I have read his columns in the Chicago papers over the years and he always struck me as a principled person.

Yes, he is a U. of Chicago Law School guy...was the dean for awhile...and he certainly knows the President.

He is not a technical expert and that is a glaring omission, but I still think that Richard Clarke and Stone are not going to roll over.

I guess for some, any association with the President taints them as rotten to the core?

the findings of the President's group will reach pre-ordained conclusions have themselves reached pre-ordained conclusions.

So there are some good guys on the panel, like Clarke and Stone?  Pfft!  They all belong in the "clown car."  Their job on this panel is to "lie." And to create "whitewash propaganda." And, let's not forget, that the whole Syria situation was "created" to distract from our NSA problems.

      As you suggest

any association with the President taints them as rotten to the core
Anyone looking from a different angle is tarred as naive or monstrously stupid.  Sigh.

propaganda, why did he put a propagandist on the panel?

      •  You could appoint the ACLU staff to this board (1+ / 0-)

and it wouldn't make any difference at all. What are they going to do? Produce a report? Report meet wastebasket.

The intelligence community reports to the president. The president makes policy, the president gives the orders, the president is ultimately responsible. They'll do whatever the president orders them to do.

This whole thing is silly. President Obama has the intelligence community he wants...either by design or by neglect. Either way, whatever he decides is all that matters. Not these silly 'advisory panels.'
