    Is it true that the White House has named a panel to assess "intelligence and communications technologies" without appointing a single person that knows what they're looking at?

    The network capabilities and the very sophisticated assessing, filtering, and data management capabilities the NSA is deploying is more the stuff of science fiction imagination than bureaucratic rule making and batting around 19th century legal concepts.  ("Total information awareness" is not hyperbole when talking about what we've learned the NSA and others are building.)  It appears we have a group of 3rd graders evaluating academic papers on string theory rather than a peer committee when it comes to the technology they're expected to study.

    Picking insiders is one way to guarantee a predictable result.  Appointing clueless and ignorant laymen with good verbal skills seems to be another layer of over-determining a superficial glossing-over of serious issues.
