From liability in the civil suit. "I wasn't even there!!"

    •  what conceiveable liablity could she have (1+ / 0-)

She wasn't there for any portion of the events of that night.

she is married to Zimmerman? Marital assets would be at risk in a civil suit against George.

I know you're not a lawyer, but, really, dude, get with it.

        •  That's not liablity on her part (1+ / 0-)

In other words, they can't get a judgment against her. They own no real estate and don't seem to have much in the way of join assets. They'd never be able to attach her wages, for example or a bank account or real estate held only in her name. They obvious way to avoid this isn't to lie, its to keep as little as possible in George's name.

          •  A couple of problems for Shellie. (0+ / 0-)

In Florida, examples of marital property are:

            • A bank or investment account that both spouses deposited pay checks into.
            • A car purchased during the marriage, no matter whose name the car is titled.
            • A retirement account funded during the marriage.

It would be difficult to shift things away from George without running into fraudulent conveyance problems.

    •  maybe that's why she's talking possible divorse (1+ / 0-)

you raised a very good point.

If the Zimmerman's lost they could lose a portion of future earnings ... like OJ's civil case. If she divorces him, she shields herself.

      •  I didn't think of that... (1+ / 0-)

I mean that she would do this to separate herself fom the act... Especially do whatever assets dye can claim as her own cant be touched?!

        •  Marital and separate assets. (1+ / 0-)

Marital assets would include joint bank accounts, vehicles purchased after marriage, retirement accounts, earnings from book and/or movie deals.

Separate assets would include anything she owned as an individual prior to marriage. Also, an inheritance received on her own behalf would be exempt even if she received it after marriage.

Although, if they weren't careful (and there is little to show that they are), her separate property could have become marital property through co-mingling.
