    and again according to the first article linked in the diary, this was apparently the first time a grower was cited in connection with a bee kill. So there's that.

    Not insignificantly, and again according to the first link in the diary, one of the injured beekeepers had this to say about the size of the fine:

    While Hart asserts that "$1,500 ain't nothing to the grove people," he thinks the state's action sends a message that regulators are watching.

    ''This could have been the best thing to happen," Hart said. "They have to make a living with citrus. I have to make a living with my honey. It boils down to the label is the law.

      The low expectations of appropriate justice among people in Florida is part of the cycle that fulfills those expectations. The beekeeper is saying that the government is irrelevant; the marketplace rules instead. That is the ideology that has made Florida the notoriously unjust place it is, for bees and for people.
