    There's a public boat landing, but because of wetland protection laws and national forest regulations, there will be no more houses on this lake out in the middle of nowhere. His place originally belonged to Uncle Tony, the fisherman mentioned in the poem.

    My brother and I refer to this little refuge as "heaven's back porch".

      and the cabin in a pristine, unchanging place!

      Our vacation cabin was the very first built on that little island, in 1929, I think. In about 1950 the local "Homeowners' Ass'n" declared it not-to-code or some such thing and demanded it be removed, because the island had become a playground for rich folks... couldn't tolerate a homemade cabin among all their vacation palaces, doncha know.

      Now the water we rowed on, where my brothers and I learned to swim, is so polluted that no one swims there anymore, and all the fish have long since died....
