  •  There was a diary last night saying (9+ / 0-)

that even though Rand Paul was "batshit crazy" (the diarists words), he was still opposing war with Syria.

So it appears that the Teahadis aren't putting Obama in this spot at all.  In fact, this might break down along lines similar to the NSA disputes, with the moderate Dems and Republicans in favor of NSA spying AND another dumb war in the Middle East.

The pattern here seems to be a bipartisan one.  Whichever party is not holding the Whitehouse feels bolder in opposing wars and opposing domestic intelligence police state type tactics.  And that makes sense, to me.  When you're the boss, you don't feel as worried about what YOU might do with YOUR powers as the guy who isn't the boss.

It seems that there's no partisan solution to any of this.  When it was Bush doing it, it was bad to dems, good to reps.  When it's Obama on the verge of doing the same, it's good to dems, bad to reps.

    •  Everyone including Obama opposes war. If there (0+ / 0-)

Are any similarities between Iraq and Syria it's the outcome of The Bush legacy of sanctions on Middle East nations..  Bush Sr. imposed sanctions on Iraq in 1990 and Bush Jr imposed sanctions on Syria in 2004.

Sanctions meant to cripple and weaken.  The media never mentions the result of sanctions on a country.  No one mentions how sanctions would affect a country.

When Bush did this he was lying.  Is Obama lying?

      •  Let's stop the hyperbole. There will be no "war". (0+ / 0-)

Pres. Obama will not introduce troops on the ground for a sustained action and Syria can't project power.  We'll lob a few symbolic missiles, enogh to maintain the U.S. position against the use of chemical agents, and that will be the end of it.  Actually, the sooner it's over, the sooner we can start looking to real solutions.

… about the NSA, there may be even more Dems that agree with Karl Rove and all the other right-wingers who signed the Weekly Standard letter to President Obama advocating that the U.S. attack Syria.
