    I don't disagree with you but the problem is in trying to find analagous situations between two completely different forms of government.  The most basic fundamental is the separation of the executive from the legislature in the US system.  Americans see that as a great strength with checks and balances, etc.  In reality, however, it's become a major impediment with the executive branch unable to accomplish anything legislatively since the other party controls the H of R and has adopted a policy of obstruction and outright vandalism.
    It's very difficult to see that happening in a Parliamentary system since the executive controls the legislature.  That's why I'm against an elected Senate in Canada since it would open us up to some of the gridlock and dysfunction that we see in the US
    It's worth noting that around 160 new countries have emerged since the end of WW2 and none of them have adopted the US Congressional system of government
