Limbaugh. This is the smear Rush repeats endlessly on his show.

Rush is one person I'd really love to see on unemployment.

      •  Rush had to drug test for his job. (5+ / 0-)

He was high at the time, so he passed.

        •  You can pass a drug test if the amounts are low. (0+ / 0-)

I have worked as a nurse in alcohol and drug treatment center for 5 years. You can have cocaine in your system but if it less then a certain level the test will be negative. I looked into this and found that this loop hole was passed by congress. You can do quantative instead and will find if there is any drugs in the system.

And in Rush's case, his pot is sooty black while the kettle is usually shiny copper.

Actually rush limbaugh is a poster child of how drug abuse is no real impediment to working.  He is a classic example of the person with little self control who abuses drugs and still manages to hold down a full time job.

I would say that for many jobs the fact that a person uses recreational drugs has little effect.  There may be a day missed here and there, but for many jobs that is OK since one get paid for the days one works, and the way scheduling works people are on call to come in on short notice.

Now, if you are a hard core drug abuser like Limbaugh, that might lead to termination.  But for the most part we have a culture that does not reward the person who works.  All of these arbitrary barriers are put in place so the person who socially acceptable is prized higher than the person who works.

I think most of our employment problems would be solved if rewarded people who were willing to work, instead of the lazy people who tend to fill way too many jobs.    The mid level executives who really do nothing but sit around all day and then use their money to drink themselves into a stupor.  Which is really the kind of drug abuse that does cause some real damage.
