  •  You are about a decade late asking these questions (0+ / 0-)

I suppose you can answer this one, why are you asking these questions now instead of years ago? It's not that hard to figure out what NSA is really doing. Stopping them is another matter. If the technology enables it, they are doing it. Really, the motivation for stopping them is all wrong. It's really just trying to embarass the President because of who he is. It's not about helping the people that's for sure.

I find it ironic that people don't pay attention until something could affect them, when its been used on others for a long time. Stop n frisk was ok until it came to the airports, then there's outrage. Government agencies has been spying on minority groups for ages but now that the some of the majority feels like it could happen to them, because of their worst fears of a black president makes it more real to them, and all of the sudden they care now. How full of shit.

I suspect people are identifying with Snowden, going up against President Obama, like how folks identified with Zimmerman in the Trayvon killing. This also cuts past political lines. It's hard not to lose faith in humanity because of this shit.

Delphine years ago and therefore are in a position to know whether s/he was speaking on these issues?  Fascinating.

    •  I think for me (7+ / 0-)

it just hasn't been the most salient issue for me.

It still isn't the most important thing to me in the scheme of really important things, and that gets me smacked here.

My career is about sustainability.  As soon as James Watt started spouting off, that's what I've been interested in.  Before it was called "sustainability".

In my mind that has always been the most important thing:  healthy air, access to clean drinking water, saving animals and habitats, reducing/recycling, keeping the planet alive, planting and hugging trees . . .

I work in the industry, it's important that we impart the concept of stewardship in the kids that are inheriting the planet from us.

To me, if we don't do that, the rest of it eventually won't matter at all.

A lot of things affect us, and I can't give all of them the same degree of focus or outrage or energy.

It doesn't mean I never cared before.  Do you remember Ashcroft's Total Information Awareness?  I was in high school when we saw what Nixon was doing.  Others here experienced COINTELPRO first hand or their families did.  The questions have been asked.  Now it's laid out and it's time to get serious about addressing it.

I must disagree with you on one major thing, though.

I don't think there's a person here at Dkos who thinks this is an issue only because we now have a black President.  Half of the arguments around here are accusation that some of us don't take it seriously enough because we like the President so much.  I do agree there has been too much Obama rage going on.

But it doesn't matter who the president is.  Presidents come and go, but the NSA is forever.

      Focus on that.
