      •  You know, I thought that the odds were (8+ / 0-)

pretty good that this President might be pretty shitty.  He seemed like an okay guy, but he didn't really know Washington and he had certainly voted in ways that tipped me off that he wasn't really as opposed to Executive Branch power or wars as many people thought.

Okay hold your hide rates people because there is a point to my statement here...

The thing that I did like about him was that he seemed to inspire people that I have known for 30 years in some cases.  People who had not engaged in politics previously and hated it when I talked about them.  Those people really were captured by the hope and change ideals - often their own projected ideals - they were engaged and interested - they believed that through participation in this democratic process they might be able to help and they invested their lot, their souls and their dreams for a better America in Obama.

I thought that that was great - really great.  Finally, Americans were reactivated and reengaged in our democratic process.  I really was grateful for that.

BUT at the same time when I watched him when he spoke I always thought to myself, "Don't let my friends down.  Don't dash their hopes in you.  Don't disappoint them, too much.  The stakes are too high.  Fallen idols pay high prices for under-performance - unlike someone that no one liked or didn't have faith in."

Now here we are and I'm not really angry at Obama for any sort of betrayal because I didn't expect him to do much that would inspire me and he has not.  But I know that some of these friends of mine are and now they are becoming cynical again.  The Democratic Party is going to end up paying this bill and that's a real problem when you consider the alternatives that will seek to fill the vacuum.

It is not a good situation.
