  •  I drove an old Landcruiser in Syria (0+ / 0-)

Mostly rode in it, but drove it once or twice. I'm not actually sure of the age of that car, it was probably late 80s? Had the extra long bed which was retrofitted with long wooden benches (not safe at all!) and lived in a stable in France in between seasons. That was the most amazing vehicle I've ever had the pleasure to ride in--once we drove what felt like straight up the side of a tell at an 80 degree angle, I just closed my eyes and prayed to the God I didn't believe in until we got to the top. I did, however, climb down and got in the truck at the bottom. ;)  Anyway, we drove in and out of wadis, through long stretches of countryside with no roads, and it never got stuck, never even complained. I've never had an urge to get an SUV for myself, but if I had to, I'd get an older Land Cruiser.
