  •  I just wonder why were are wasting anyone's lives (0+ / 0-)

and time in Afghanistan anymore when the end game is so clearly in sight?  As soon as the US presence leaves there, Afghanistan will revert to the festering, feuding collection of war lards and petty tyrants that has been for centuries and the people in charge now will be living on the French Riviera with their stolen US funds in Zurich.

For all the US effort there, Afghanistan will not change and unless we want to keep people deploying there for the rest of recorded history, a US effort is unlikely to make any difference.

That question is above my pay grade.

Yesterday I posted on my general feelings about the whole thing.

The short answer though is that there is a tentative time line to end Combat Operations of the International Forces (US and a few others).  That is Dec 31, 2014.  Till then Soldiers there have to be replaced, after all no one wants to stay there for two plus years.

I am going to replace an existing unit, our real question is are we going to be replaced or be extended to the end (three additional months).  That is not unheard of, in 2006/2007 to fill the Iraq surge they held units past their return rotation and sent in more troops.  In 2011 the wrap up resulted in several units being held to the last day beyond their rotation home date.

Another thing beyond my pay grade.

Stupid question hour starts now and ends in five minutes.
