that Schmidt happened upon the 'vinlander' moniker some other way, but his ties to neo-Nazism are demonstrated by his appearance on a neo-Nazi website. If they didn't have that information, I might have agreed with you. But when the fellow is already shown to be a white nationalist it's not as much of a stretch.

This guy clearly identifies with white nationalism. The problem I was trying to raise is that the SPLC is more concerned with raising a sense of moral panic (http://en.wikipedia.org/...) than with being helpful in solving a very real problem. The Vinlanders are tangential here.

      •  SPLC raising moral panic? Now that is a (3+ / 0-)

laugher. Perhaps you are confusing them with the defunct Moral Majority, which wasn't either or with other religious zealot groups, and that is interesting because the cult that worships the gun is the one I see every day trying to create a panic about "rights being taken away" any time a reasonable firearms regulation (such as repealing SYG law) is proposed.

The SPLC is very well respected among a great majority of Americans, except of course racists - geez I wonder why?

        •  The danger... (0+ / 0-)

... is that by amplifying the notoriety of particular groups and individuals, the SPLC (and ADL) increase their attractiveness to a kind of person who seeks to be a large fish in a small pond. In effect, they inadvertently feed and strengthen these groups.
