    working the ground game locally to promote sane, secular, independent minded citizens keen to serve and not to attain power?

    sorry, but the answer seems clear to me: they allow the rethugs to divide us in our communities so we become too distracted and torn apart to stop things like Iraq or Syria.

    or to understand and hear clear difference between a president who says we have a "right" to "health insurance" (which is what Obama said) or one who says we have a right to health CARE (which he did not say)... and then the lynch pin of the whole damned thing is getting young people to sign up? sorry, but it doesn't seem to smart to me.

    we are way to distracted and it seems to me to be by design.

      Outside of their base voters, the GOP and Democrats often answer to the same corporate interests. So the Democrats need the GOP in a sense, when it comes to passing or killing legislation as favored by Corporate America and Big Finance. The stronger their majorities, the more the party needs to engage in villain rotation, and they'd just as soon the GOP play the goons.
