  •  She's been a hawk ever since she started (9+ / 0-)

    her run for the Senate.

Get her started on Iran, and you can't tell her from Clinton.

    •  One of several reasons (10+ / 0-)

I don't want her anywhere near the White House, except as a luncheon guest.

Dogs from the street can have all the desirable qualities that one could want from pet dogs. Most adopted stray dogs are usually humble and exceptionally faithful to their owners as if they are grateful for this kindness. -- H.M. Bhumibol Adulyadej

      •  I'm completely open to her developing her *own* (9+ / 0-)

views on foreign policy.  I don't entirely judge her capabilities based on her absorbing Conventional Wisdom during three months of cram-sessions with DNC hacks after letting herself get drafted to run for Senate.

But, right now, she is where she is.

be war mongers. I was aghast to hear Howard Dean on morning joe say he had always been pretty much a war hawk.

Give those ole time politicians promising peace and prosperity, a chicken in every pot..........

He said that? Dean, who based his entire candidacy on opposition to the Iraq war? Well, he's been campaigning here in NYC, maybe he'd been standing out in the sun for too long.

          •  shock to me also, but being against one war, as (9+ / 0-)

Obama was also, doesn't seem to mean you are not a war hawk.

Surprise to me from both of them.

I recall the video of Obama making all his demands to Bush on timelines, and what to do to end the Iraq war, back when he was senator.

Every word he uttered should be used now towards Obama, regarding the Afghan war.

We are governed by a bunch of war hawks.

Barbara Lee is the voice of reason in congress, the lone voice who stood alone, totally alone, and voted against the Afghanistan war.

To have hundreds like her in congress would lead to a functioning government again.

himself out to be a pacifist; IIRC, the quote is, " I'm not against all wars, but I am against dumb wars". Problem is, if this doesn't fit the definition of a dumb war (at least for the US), I can't imagine one that does.

I'm seeing this more as a situation in which he spoke precipitately, without considering what Assad's response might be. That surprised me, because even though I have lots of problems with how Obama has governed, I've never thought he was rash (and that's a good thing).

Well, now he knows what Assad's response was. And if they're playing eleven-dimensional chess, Assad checked him, with human lives.

              •  He campaigned on a rapid withdrawl from (0+ / 0-)

                Iraq - didn't do it.

He campaigned on a limited (2 to 3 brigade) troop increase in Afghanistan and "focusing on those who actually attacked us" rather than trying to make the country safe for the Karzai Keystone Kronies.

He campaigned as being reluctant to use force in general, and as putting a very high priority on stiking to killing combatants - not civilians.

realized that Obama's campaign promises were just that. I  know you did, too.

I don't even think about them any more in relation to his current policies. What's the point?

I mean, geez, the MEK has been classified for years as a terrorist group.

Dean's (paid) support for the MEK pretty much means he supports war, whether overt or covert, with Iran.

And I read through both the linked piece and the response.

One more reason why we should never have heroes. sigh.

As you hopefully are aware, today is the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's powerful, moving and memorable "I have a dream…" speech. In a just world, that speech would be in the public domain. And, legally, it might be. …

Of course, [administrators of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s estate are] more than happy to license the speech to the highest bidder — which is why the speech has been used to sell cars and mobile phone service — but if you were to post it yourself to share it and honor his memory, expect a DMCA takedown. This should bother you. The speech and the legacy of Dr. King are not available for you and I to use, but giant telcos can pay thousands of dollars for the privilege. While there's a strong fair use argument that the speech can be used as "a historical artifact" in such situations as today, very few people feel like testing that theory in court.

politicians go and promote Scientologies "recovery programs".  Once upon a time, several really decent Bay Area politicians supported The Peoples Temples FFS.

But they were duped.  Someone ran a con job on them.  Yes, it's their poor judgement, but we've all been scammed in our lives.

The difference with Dean, what I find so repellent, is that he did it for money.
