    And I don't believe you failed your daughter in the slightest.  I came out to my parents when I was a little younger than your daughter but around the same age, in 1996, when I was in college.  Up until then I struggled very much coming to terms with my sexuality; things of course were a bit different back then; I think part of the reason I hesitated in coming out to my parents, in coming out to anyone for that matter, is that in saying it, "I'm gay," was to somehow make it come true; I can only speak for myself, but there was this wish I had that it weren't true; finally, there is acceptance and learning to love yourself.

    Also, I think when I did finally come out to my parents, despite my fears, my decision to do so probably had a lot to do with the way in which they raised and loved me, that no matter what, I will always be their son.  And that seems to be at the heart of your relationship with your daughter.  You are a great Mama!
