    is a significant part of the reason animation has had such a renaissance internationally, and become much more prevalent as a way to tell a serious story.

    He is that amazing and that influential.

      mentions two scenes, one that Miyasaki created, and one that was inspired by his technique, that epitomize how he's moved animation forward.
      1) The water scene in Spirited Away, where it looks transparent enough for you to see the fish swimming, and
      2) The avalanche scene in Mulan, where the invading Huns are overtaken by a wave of snow, disappearing and reappearing in the clouds of powder.
