    bracken, and maples in my yard, too.  No madrones though. I've heaped the compost piles under a couple feet of maple leaves by now.

    Here's a couple of my personal signs of Fall.  There's a score of mallards, a hundred coots and 4 Bufflehead pairs on the golf course ponds. Whenever I approach, its "everyone in the water!"

    The Brewer Blackbirds usually number 100 or more on the ground on the West side of the golf course, gobbling worms and bugs, and waiting to hassle any hawks approaching from the right side of the photo.
    But that fairway is empty now, and the Redtail couple (too swift to photograph) swoop in, unmolested.
