  •  We are fending off a heat wave that is engulfing (16+ / 0-)

The lands just a little ways in from the coast here in Eureka, Ca, today, so it could get up to a warm 75 or so this afternoon.

I love your water feature, 6, and it makes me envious. My smaller attempt was immediately devastated by our local raccoons, and I just replaced the birdbath that they broke a  few days ago.

Your hope that a heron will come fishing in your pond reminds me of a woman on Long Island a few years ago who spent a bunch of money stocking her backyard pond with large koi so that the ospreys who nested nearby would always have food. Many times we who watched the live cam at the DPOF nest saw the dad bring those red fish in for the kids and marvelled at the expense. She just loved ospreys, I guess.

    •  Koi for the Osprey, martyr 35? (8+ / 0-)

That's pretty spendy, even the blandest small Koi starts at $20 or more and a nice platinum one can cost a grand.

I've also had other ponds devastated by raccoons.  I've dug these deeper with steep sides, which may have helped.
