    The UN, like the US government is dysfunctional. So talking about how wrong an action is without UN permission is a useless point.
    Those of us with slightly longer memories recall that the League of Nations fell apart as a result of its failure/inability to act over the Italian invasion of Abyssinia in which poison gas was used.

          out around the same time.

          Pretty hard for the League, to be "falling apart" because of a crisis a couple years after it had already fallen apart as a functioning entity.
