You have exactly 10 seconds to change that look of disgusting pity into one of enormous respect!

      •  Worst argument ever. (7+ / 0-)

Given the choice between two actions, neither of which will alter Bashar's actions, you choose the one where we actively splatter blood on our hands.  Seriously - the only certain outcome from this is "collateral damage."  That's nice-speak for my money being spent to kill someone's son, someone's daughter, someone's mother or father who happened to have the terrible luck to be in the path of a chunk of building we blew up.

thousands more die from gas. Get off your high horse, if you really care about lives you'd be hesitant to make the ridiculous argument you have.

a futile national tantrum of disapproval is not the way grown-up nations act.

That, and unless attacked, the only lawful authority to wage war comes from a vote of the Security Council.

            •  You aren't in a position (0+ / 0-)

to state that action will be futile. You have no idea what's being contemplated, nor the relative likelihood of "success."

                •  Um... (0+ / 0-)

wtf? You're making a categorical claim that a certain type of action will be "futile." All I'm saying is that you can't possibly possess the knowledge to state as much. As far as I'm aware we have never lived in an openly feudal society on this side of the ocean (Slavery excepted for the present argument). So I have no idea from which basis you are attempting to pick a fight.

                    of such actions.

The notion that a citizen is not permitted to examine the record and come to the conclusion that such a national tantrum as that being proposed will have not only not the intended effect, but considerable blowback and negative unintended consequences, is tantamount to saying the lowly ruled should shut the fuck up and let the decider class decide.

Which is offensive on the face of it, even before one realizes that the decider class and their pundit backers are incapable of conceiving of international conflicts on terms more complex than schoolyard hierarchies.

This is a blog. Nobody is oppressing your right to express yourself as your growing volume of replies in this thread serves as testament to. You may be correct that there will be negative intended consequences, but it is also possible that a plan of action has been designed that will successfully eliminate threat of further use of gas. Both are possible, but I would not go so far as to imagine I can say with any certainty how things will turn out. By your determination, the Cubs will never win a World Series, because past performance dictates they can't.

I cannot prevent you from taking offense, but neither should you suppose I will feel bad about it when no offense was intended.

          •  You watched 5 million die in the Congo (0+ / 0-)

Thousands and thousands of women gang-raped and then shot in the vagina.  Thousands and thousands of children abducted and enslaved to mine rare earth metals so you can have cheap phones and TVs.

What you want to do is drop some bombs and kill a few dozen people, and THEN sit back and watch thousands more die from gas anyway.

You know what?  Fuck you and your high horse.
