I think women nursing their babies is not only important for the health of the child, it's just damn beautiful. [...] For me, it wasn't about the mom or the baby, it was about the amazing loving connection between the two of them.
Oh, I don't disagree at all where breastfeeding is concerned - I hope you didn't infer that from my earlier comment!

If anything, it's that it's SO intimate (or, at least, that's how I see it) that I feel awkward when others share that intimacy in public.  Now, maybe I feel that way because it was so amazingly intimate and beautiful with my wife and our 4 kids (even at 3am)....I just don't know.

I'll readily admit that I feel the same way about other public expressions of intimacy and sexuality, such as deep kissing; I'm certainly not repulsed or offended...I just feel like a voyeur, an interloper of sorts wandering through someone else's intimacy.

When folks insist on such displays in public, I sometimes feel as if they're forcing me into their sphere/aura/whatever, especially where complete strangers are concerned.

That's what I meant by "levels of intimacy."

The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...
