  •  yep, or people who, no matter where they work... (10+ / 0-)

... always get stuck, job after job after job, with co-workers who are always "a bunch of assholes."   They never stop to realize that the single unifying factor of all those jobs was... them!  And that may be the problem.

      It's actually probably you.

but I don't give them anything to needle me with.  I need this job because I need the paycheck and the bennies, and in any case, I choose to get along with these guys, even though I find much about them objectionable.  But hey, I also don't have to hang out with them after work (impossible anyway, given the hours) or spend time with them on the weekends.  You find the work-arounds and apply them.

OTOH, I do sympathise with the workers who left that note for their boss.  It may not be a hard job, and it likely doesn't pay very well, but nobody should have to put up with an abusive boss.  Most of all, nobody should ever have to dread going to work.

like to think of one another as a fellowship of a-holes. it may be strange to accept, but it's not an entirely insane concept. it may keep them in a secure reassuring station, with predictability and a deep deep sense of acceptance.

=) i don't know, i've worked with a decent # of a-hole guys, and some nasty ladies, usually never altogether at any place, and it can be worth checking if they're faking or not.

not that some behaviors are not irritating, of themselves, to anyone. but where there's a cluster of any butt-heads, there will always be more than a few dealing with the same crap from them. grin-and-bear where/when it's worth it, but work is most usually not for love. and where there is a genuine passion, let it please be in the best possible environment to any/all involved, because that could be the worst in terms of modern spins on traditional models of exploitation. some teachers dealing with impossible and/or corrupt administrators, who are not jaded or dirtied themselves - that is just one example. there will always be people that look to make another's day more difficult or dire.

that boss sounds like he was tempered but not like he was particularly targeting facets of them for his own gain or benefit, or for their primary degradation and thereby his gain or benefit. if someone in context had cancer, or he was implying insult to them, that'd be a sad thing and he should leave it with corporate/legal compliance, but the 3 of them could also be extremely gossipy high schoolers, or have reached that understanding of just how crappy working in an unnatural, overstretched, underpaid environment may be. he must've been a mess for the 3 to be so happy to leave, though.
