Israel's going to bomb Iran because they can't con us into doing it for them.

Iran is years away from building nuclear weapons. What's Lindsey's excuse for not knowing something like that?

    •  Lindsey is getting a little more senile every day (7+ / 0-)

Everyone in Washington knows the reason President Obama is going to smite the Syrians is because Israel told him flat out that they are going to attack Iran's uranium enrichment facilities before October, so either get with the program or catch up with us if you can.

That's why the President made it clear that this Syria thing is happening no matter how Congress votes. And why John Kerry said, with a straight face, in public, that the President has the "right" to make war when he wants to. Our Constitution says no such thing.

But no one's supposed to blurt out that it's all about Iran, Lindsey. Can't you stick to the script for five friggin' minutes, you old coot?

This is going to be a guaranteed fustercluck.

We bomb Syria, Syria lobs missiles into Israel, Israel immediately says, "Iran is behind this dastardly deed!" and bombs those buried uranium enrichment plants in Iran. Which is what this war is all about. Syria's just an excuse.

But those uranium factories are buried really deep. Deep enough that nothing short of tactical nukes will even rattle them. So that's what Israel will use. In self defense.

Iran will promptly sink an oil tanker or two in the narrow Persian Gulf, stopping 20% of the world's oil from flowing, plunging America and Europe into Depression overnight. We'll have to respond with nukes and boots on the ground to save our economy and overseas empire and wheee! -- war throughout the Middle East, with no one in control of what happens next.

Libya's war reduced their oil output by 90%. Iraq's civil war has prevented their returning to pre-war levels of oil output. War on Iran, and Iran lobbing missiles into Saudi oilfields will have a similar effect on oil flow from the Middle East for years to come. Prices for gas, food, imports, everything will go up. A lot. And they won't come down by Christmas, either.

This splendid little war will get out of control, and it's going to hit your pocketbook really hard.

All before October, Mister President. Don't be late.

He lives in the past alright, recycling old justifications: a revised Friedman Unit (not 6 months til success, but 6 months til failure if we don't go to war!), plus Condi's ominous mushroom cloud.

And we thought we had  to wait until we could find an excuse to try this on Iran...thanks Bashir!

Vietnam, Cambodia, Iraq, Afghanistran, assorted mini-wars. What could possibly go wrong?

(I give up on the illegality or unconstitutionality of this latest fiasco -- that is far to wimpy for our noble Overlords)

        •  They pick six months figuring you'll forget (0+ / 0-)

That's the magic of the Friedman unit. It's just long enough the average person can't really remember the original prediction. You can keep making predictions like a Magic 8 Ball, and if the sun happens to shine on your canine ass and one of the predictions comes true, you can point to what a brilliant sumbitch you are that you were right. Just keep making those six-months-from-now predictions.

taking the intent for the act. When "the idea is all it takes," then as soon as one has a thought the deed is as good as done. If you've thought it, it's already too late. That accounts for the desperation.
Remember "The Perils of Pauline"? Lindsey's a story teller. Stories of bears under the bed are favorites because the bears aren't real.

I-ran is such a lovely phrase. "I ran" because the fear "Is real." It's a story.

    •  Why does anyone think Iran would use a nuke? (4+ / 0-)

Why is this question never asked?

What possible reason would Iran have to commit suicide that way?

        Same reason as some Christians.

I met him after 9/11/2001. He's great at the psychology and causes but he didn't have any prescription for how to deal with it. But essential reading to understand what's under the surface!!!!

        •  "Iran" is not equivalent to "some Christians" (2+ / 0-)

"Some Muslims" or "some Iranians" would be the equivalent of "some Christians."  Yes, there are some crazies in the Islamic world and there are some crazies in Iran, just as there are some crazies in the Christian world and some crazies in America.  There are crazies in Israel, Russia, and China too, but yet Israel, Russia and China have never bombed a country with nukes.  When the U.S. did bomb Japan with nukes, well, whatever you think of that action, it wasn't fueled by craziness.

Iranian leaders do not have any interest in being obliterated from the map, any more than American or Russian leaders did during the Cold War.  I wish nukes didn't exist at all, but the fact is, when they do, the whole deterrence because of retaliation thing is actually pretty effective.
