  •  Are you saying he has no influence, (1+ / 0-)

or minimal influence on the political course of the U.S.? Or if he does have influence that it is not corrosive? If either of these expresses your belief I have to take strong issue with you. Republican politicians quake when he comes into a room because they understand he can swing the vote in a primary. If that's not influence then it is hard to know exactly what is. If you say that his influence is waning, then that might well be true, but it can also be said that it is one wane because of the efforts of groups like StopRush.

But  I don't think you mean that he lacks influence, or that this influence is not corrosive. What I think you mean is that  if we ignored him he will go away. Again, I respect your right to hold such a belief, but absent any evidence more than a declaration on your part, I find it a position that is difficult to accept. I think you have too much faith in his listenership. I personally don't think it is a reasonable expectation that  ignoring him would cause them to suddenly come to the realization that he was a lunatic. I think what would happen is that absent a reasoned opposition his influence would increase.

I am wondering if your logic extends to the whole parade of clowns out there leading the parade in conservative politics. Should we likewise ignore Beck, Hannity, O'Reily, et al?

BTW, I don't think that Limbaugh is a moron. I think instead he is a person who consciously says things that appeal to the morons who constitute his following. It has proven amazingly lucrative.
