    manage to pass the CPA exam?

    More specifically, the study finds that people who are otherwise very good at math may totally flunk a problem that they would otherwise probably be able to solve, simply because giving the right answer goes against their political beliefs.
     I passed the CPA exam with flying colors, and I've known conservatives who did so as well.  Although that exam involves more than math, one still has to do fairly well in math to pass it.  Or at least they used to.  Maybe these days it's more focused on how to avoid regulations.

      Actually, the conservatives in their sample averaged slightly higher on the math sections than the liberals.

      However, as I posted in another comment, there's something odd about the results as presented -- as far as I can tell, the effect they report is nonexistent at the highest levels of numeracy according to Figure 5, but stark in Figure 6.
