That means people are going to be getting a pretty darned good deal in the insurance exchanges, and the companies are going to get a boatload of new customers. It's pretty much a win-win
Yes, a win-win if you think locking the US into private insurance rather than single payer for generations is a good thing.  What the ACA does is pretty much guarantees that we will not see single payer insurance - the only truly viable solution to rising health care costs.

Imagine what it will take politically and practically to move to single payer when more and more people are put on private insurance and, as a result, the private insurers get bigger and bigger and gain more and more control over the market and government policy.  If anyone thinks this opens a door to single payer, then I have a public option to sell them.

...far better to leave people uninsured than to put them on private insurance.  As they die of treatable illnesses, I'm sure that they will all understand that it is in the greater good of trying to get single payer 20 years from now instead of doing something that is ideologically impure today.

And of course invoking the curse of Ideological Purity .... that's always a winning argument too.

I'm so ASHAMED for letting "good" become the enemy of "better than nothing at all."

"Half a tank" is NOT better than "no gas" if you're in an airplane.
