    This "humanitarian intervention" spin is very seductive: it allows us to escape from dealing with our myriad domestic problems (high unemployment, environmental deterioration, increasing inequality) into a fantasy world where we can play the good guys and liberate a bunch of helpless people suffering under the iron jackboot of a cruel tyrant.
    We can't figure out how to fix our problems. So, put on a white hat, be the "good guys!" and ignore our problems.

    It's about feeling better about ourselves. But I have a problem:  I don't feel better about myself when our country is killing other people.  Just defective, I guess.
