      ...beliefs about what's right and wrong.  The reflexive dismissal of all claims in favor of doing strictly what suits oneself seems more like nihilism to me.

        White phosphorus isn't a chemical weapon because we use it.  The shells that were seen at the Damascus poisoning sites looked homemade, but they were lobbed by the Syrian army.  The cables that were intercepted were relayed by the same agencies who've lied to us about their unaccountable domestic eavesdropping but the evidence is unassailable.  

        Assad is a heinous pig.  That's why we renditioned a bunch of "suspects" to him, because he's so good at doing the nastiness we would rather outsource.  Until, that is (like Saddam before him) we decide that making him a bogeyman is more expeditious to our "national interests" than keeping him on as a proxy henchman (again, like Saddam).
