    American Hustle is based on the ABSCAM scandal.

    Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is a look at how Nelson Mandela came to be the revered icon he is.

    12 Years a Slave is from the autobiography of Soloman Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped and forced to be a slave for 12 years.

    Stalingrad is a Russian film that takes places during the infamous WWII battle in 1942.

    Dallas Buyers Club is the story of Ron Woodruff, who smuggled in drugs that weren't FDA approved to help people with AIDS in the mid-1980s.

    Kill Your Darlings is about some of the most famous poets of the Beat Generation, and the murder of David Kammerer that they were involved with.  Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg?  Whoa.

    What do you guys think?  Any you're interested in seeing?  Some of these already have significant Oscar buzz.

      ...ultimately. So many free blacks were snatched into slavery, with the assistance of the Fugitive Slave Act, that rancid piece of legislation that allowed bounty hunters to roam the land, unfettered, grabbing up men and women worse than if they were cattle.

      by Somali pirates and rescued by the Seals a few years ago. It's the new Tom Hanks movie, out in October.

      I got to see it last week--there's a marketing research center in the local shopping mall, and last week I was recruited to preview the movie and fill out a big long survey for them.

      It has a lot more "action" than a typical Tom Hanks movie. I'm a little curious to see what, if anything, they change in the released version based on the test audience surveys.
