    at the age of 10. I also served in the military and had weapons training there, so yes, I know what to do with a gun, and how to securely store them.

    If we ever leave New York, for rural space, I can certainly see keeping a few guns in the house, but I doubt I'd ever want to carry a handgun. I would have no problems with registration, licensing and insurance, and requirements for periodic continued proficiency training.

    E.g. if you haven't shot your gun in 5 years it is highly doubtful that you still have the skills you once had. If you eyesight has deteriorated, or you hand shakes a little, or your response time is slower than it used to be, your competence for using a gun lawfully is degrading, and periodic testing would alert people to that fact.
