  •  Suppose ... (0+ / 0-)

this was a test by the Syrian government to see whether they could get away with using chemical weapons. (Doesn't this seem likely? Or do you think the Syrian government can be trusted to do the right thing?)

If it was, and Obama does absolutely nothing, then are we going to stand by and watch tens and hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrian civilians get gassed to death?

Dropping a few bombs now might (or might not) be the only way to stay out of the Syrian civil war.

      Obama Warned on Syrian Intel
      September 6, 2013

Exclusive: Despite the Obama administration’s supposedly “high confidence” regarding Syrian government guilt over the Aug. 21 chemical attack near Damascus, a dozen former U.S. military and intelligence officials are telling President Obama that they are picking up information that undercuts the Official Story.

Long article. Check out the detail of arms being provided and to who. Timing of events.  And then check out the people endorsing the article at the bottom. It's a Who's Who of knowing what's going on.

obviously we shouldn't do anything. But if this was a Syrian government feeler to see whether they could get away with using chemical weapons, I think we have to respond.

We need better intelligence. Let's hope the Obama administration has it.

"Why does the USA have to respond, virtually alone?"

Why isn't this the responsibility of the UN or the Arab League, both of whom the USA should not be attempting to usurp with premature action?
