    are almost never going to be had.  Why that is an argument for continued oppressions though I have never understood.

    I imagine people said there were "no definitive answers" as to what would happen if they freed the slaves, too, but somehow it worked out.

      well, given that it took about a hundred more years for african americans to get even a semblance of their civil rights, and the majority of their population remains mired in institutionalized poverty.
