    Note it doesn't say anything about an actual loophole. What it actually says is that in Texas, you have a right to openly carry an unloaded gun. The blog author is not very good at describing that right, but she at least seems to kind of understand that this applies to long arms based on her examples (as opposed to handguns). The blog author's focus is on pointing out that one can be charged with disorderly conduct for displaying a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm.

    So in other words, Texas law doesn't allow waving around a handgun (or any other gun). Moreover, the otherwise legal act of carrying a long arm can still get you a disorderly conduct citation if someone is disturbed by your doing so (the blog's example is a woman at Starbucks being "freaked out" at two guys drinking coffee with a rifle leaned against their table).
