  •  Re: food waste in Asia (17+ / 0-)

some are trying to change a culture.Operation Empty Plate: China's food waste campaigner

Ordering lunch at a restaurant is a challenge for Xu Zhijun. As the creator of "Operation Empty Plate", an online anti-food-waste campaign, Mr Xu avoids ordering too much.
As a child, he toiled in the rice paddies near his tiny village in China's eastern Jiangsu province. "My parents and my grandparents educated me to cherish food," Mr Xu explains.
After moving to Beijing to work at an agricultural newspaper, Mr Xu was shocked to see piles of half-finished dishes left on restaurant tables. After learning that the food wasted by Chinese university students could feed 10 million people a year, Mr Xu reached his boiling point.

    Ceiling Cat rules....srsly.

    •  Wasting food makes me feel bad. Really. And (4+ / 0-)

tomorrow I will probably throw out about 1lb of food that should have been eaten but didn't. We are normally very good about eating leftovers. It's what's for lunch!! For the last few weeks DH has been going down to Modesto to work on the rental house so it has thrown everything out of whack. sigh. Everything is out of balance right now. Our grounds maintenance guy is taking on a consulting gig in Chicago for possibly 6 weeks starting this weekend. yay!!! He'll be banking good bucks. He got laid off for being too old to work on particle accelerators. oops - there is still a need for them to be fixed occasionally! He works for us doing grounds maintenance because as he says - I could join a gym and pay, but fuck it - they pay me! He is a great guy and will be missed while he is gone. We have gone through enough heroin addicted local 20 somethings that we will gladly pay a 60 yr old nam vet. Funny how stuff works.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.
