  •  the frightening thing now is that many families (none)
have one or both parents working not one or two jobs, but three jobs - sleeping only an hour or so a nite between going from one to another.

we are becoming a nation of sleep deprived - working ungodly hours for minimum wage, which, after taxes and social security, do not leave enough to pay rent, much less by food or pay for higher gas prices.

when the gas prices rise, the farmer's markets ALWAYS see a drastic drop in sales - then when the prices finally go down, it is taking longer and longer to see the sales come back.

people are nervous, they ARE panicking - they are sometimes downright scared out of their wits.

the past two weeks were graduations in this area - local cops told the gas stations to heads up since they would be "very busy" because of this.  i spent several hours talking to one young woman in a gas station on a major thoroughfare - and maybe four customers came in.  then i went to denny's - it was only half full.  chevys was busier than other areas - but no where near to capacity.

people are shying away from ANY expense at all.

monday, the day after father's day - two restaurants i stopped by to show silver - one had one customer at 7:30 dinner hour - the other (a major chain) had been mostly empty the whole nite.

people are not spending anything except on the barest essentials.  it is getting ugly out there - so, folks, put your change in a jar and don't touch - build a nest egg of any amount you can - stock up on canned goods, buy extra essential items.  it is going to get rockier and rockier...

War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength. Long Live Oceana!
