If I had been elected President in 2008 we probably would not have all these countries on our official Allies list. But we do.

There's also a dictator, who borders all three, stays in power partly through the military aid of terrorists determined to destroy one of those countries, and gasses his own people. We kinda have an obligation to stop that shit. And our other allies, even the ones who criticize us for going after Assad, sleep better at night knowing that if they get paranoid due to the actions of a neighbor, they too can depend on the USAF to blow some shit up.

If it was Zimbabwe, Congo (either one), or even Peru we could stay out. Staying out would be a no-brainer. But it's Syria. So we're screwed.

      i dunno

and what do you mean that Zimbabwe and Congo aren't deserving of our protection but Israel, Jordan and Turkey are?  I am against any more intervention without UN's help.

We have brutal dictators all over the world, some are our friends, like Saudi Arabia.  Why aren't they fighting Assad?  Why us?

And in the very short term we can't make it that way.

Israel, Jordan and Turkey have all in the past done things to help us because they are our allies. That means when they need help we are obligated to help them. At this moment in time that means we either bomb Syria, or get the Russians to convince the Syrians to give up their chemical arsenal. Apparently the Russians have a proposal that they think would do that, and most of my hopes for peace are with this proposal.

Now if you've got some proposal that the Russians won't veto, which will allow the UN to have it's own military that can intervene in the four non-Allied countries we're talking about I would love to hear it. If you've got a scenario where those four countries will sign up to be out allies I'd love to hear it.
