    I hate to second-guess the police.  It takes bravery to know there’s a man with a gun up ahead and to go deliberately to meet the threat.  I don’t mean to badmouth them here, but vital parts of the puzzle of this man’s death are missing.
    It's a scary situation, particularly when he fired through a closed door at the police, showing he was likely willing to kill.

    Assuming that any innocents were safe with him holed up, though, I agree that perhaps waiting him out would have been the better approach. The police officers are on the clock. No need to rush anything. The situation probably would have just resolved itself with some time.

      MONTHS in order to gain trust and access to the armed home of a couple of tax evaders. Imagine if police here had waited 5 months?  In just a day or two they probably would have heard (and seen with their camera!!) the guy pass out, perhaps even pass on- at that age...

      We are all pupils in the eyes of God.
